FDNY FFT MEMBERS ONCE AGAIN SHOW THEIR TRUE COLORS

The Lt. Dan Van (FFT # 11) and the Bravest Football Van (FFT # 7) carried FDNY’s Bravest to Washington DC. The trip began on Thursday morning, October 18th, and ended Saturday October 20th.

Participants were:

Retired Firefighters: Steve Orr, Steve Collins, Bob Fraumeni, BC John Dillon, Lt. Mike Hyland, and Peter Brady.

Active Members: FF Dan Prince and Lt. Mike Galgano.

The three day tour included visits to the Wounded Warriors at the Fisher House, Walter Reed Army Hospital, and Bethesda Naval Hospital. On Friday night Gary Sinise and the Lieutenant Dan Band performed in concert, sponsored by the USO, at the Red Cross Building on the grounds of Walter Reed Hospital.

A big thanks to FFT’s Mike Hyland for coordinating the trip!

THE FOURTH ANNUAL BLUE MASS

Our fourth hosting of the Mass was our best. The turnout was a respectable one. Sure there were Cops and Firefighters, but there were also POW’s from WWII. That was an honor in itself.

Thanks to Eileen Long for the first reading, and to Chief Cassano for the second.

Later, Father Christopher Keenan delivered a stirring homily. And, as always Sister Beata, with her angelic voice, led us in song.

Our guest Speaker Russel J. Keat told us about the “truths” of the war in Afghanistan.

Then we concluded outside the Church with a post-mass musical event. Jessica Young sang her emotional heart out with her own rendition of “Angels of 343.” The Music of Hank Fellows was represented by Mark Aldrich; he sang two songs, “Halfway to Heaven” and “The Spirit of America.” Both were very moving songs.

We thank everyone for attending and hope you can all return next year.
