FDNY Captain John Gormley recently returned from a tour in Afghanistan. While he was there, we got in touch with him and sent 2 boxes stocked with our FDNY “Leathernecks” t-shirts and some “NYC’s Bravest Salute America’s Bravest” t-shirts. (well over 6 dozen).
We recently received a Certificate of Appreciation dated June 6th, 2007 (click the image for a larger version).
June 6th, as you well know, is the day of the D-Day invasion, so we feel doubly honored the certificate is on that date. John let us know that the troops love to have a nice clean t-shirt after a day of patrol in those hot and humid regions of the war.
If you wish to donate t-shirts, please let us know and we can forward an address to you. See the following link for a related story, 10th Mountain Division Receives Gift from FDNY in Afghanistan.
We soon will be featuring our t-shirts on this webpage, including ordering information. Our t-shirts will be available soon.

John Vigiano, Retired Captain FDNY (left), and Mike Hyland, Retired Lieutenant FDNY (right), pose with Steven McDonald at the Brooklyn Breakfast Club (BBC) on Friday, July 27th.
Steven was there to promote the “Walk”.
We had a packed house to hear Steven’s story of how he and Father Mike met and became good friends. He also chatted with John Vigiano. Mr. Vigiano lost his two sons on 9-11-01. One of his sons, Joe Vigiano, was an ESU Police Officer, as was Steven McDonald’s brother. They worked together in this elite unit. His other son John was a New York City Firefighter and was also killed on 9-11-01. One of our vans - FFT # 12 - is dedicated to them.
FFT # 12 and the other 9-11 dedicated Vans will be at the “Walk” on September 9th. Hope to see you all there!

Firefighter Gene Stolowski of Ladder 27 is just about finished with his therapy. Gene has had the service of the Fire Family Transport Foundation since he had to jump from a fifth floor window on what is now known as Black Sunday (1/23/05). On that day, four members of Ladder 27, and 2 members from Rescue 3 were forced to jump from the fifth floor to escape high heat and flames. Lt. Curtis Meyran and Firefighter John Bellew, both of Ladder Company 27 made the supreme sacrifice as a result of the fall. Joey DiBernardo and Jeff Cool of Rescue 3, and Gene Stolowski and Brendan Cawley of Ladder 27 survived.
Gene is still in therapy but is expected to end his sessions by the end of July. Gene has been taken care of in FFT #4, FFT # 11, and now has FFT #1. “The vans have helped us immensely, I don’t know what we would have done without them,” says Gene. (Joey D’, Jeff Cool, Brendan Cawley and other members injured at this fire also have had extensive use of our vans.)

We’re currently looking for volunteers to help with ticket sales as well as help for the night of the event. This event is 100% volunteer driven. Unfortunately, we’ve had a few setbacks, with the sudden deaths of 2 FDNY members. Any help you might be able to provide with promoting our event would be great. If you are interested in attending, tickets are only $15 for friends (limited supply), which includes a free drink. Thanks.Thursday, September 20th

The Tradition Continues…
The tradition of escorting the Gordon Bennett Medal winner continued on Wednesday June 6th, 2007. This was our third time for the escort.
This year was the best weather-wise. Our first was cloudy and overcast, last year was a rainy one, but this year was a perfect sunny day.
Our congratulations, from our entire Executive Board, go out to Firefighter James T. Byrne, of Ladder Company 121, on receiving the Gordon Bennett Medal, the top award on Medal Day. It was a pleasure escorting you and your family on such a joyous day.
Here are some pictures courtesy of our Official Photographer, Butch Moran. Hope you enjoy…
